About the Studio
To be an architect is to accept the challenge of shaping space, defining the elusive and giving form to an idea.
Our objective is to create architecture with meaning and purpose, inspired by our clients, the location, culture, and environment.
We believe that the buildings we admire are the ones that celebrate values we consider important, and that the architect’s tools should be honesty, curiosity, passion, respect for the environment, creativity, and knowledge.
About Luca
I grew up in Italy surrounded by the uncompromising work ethic of generations of artisans and master craftspeople who often were my neighbors and friends. I was educated at the University of Florence and began my training under Alessandro Colombo at Gregotti Associati in Milan.
In 1997 I was invited to work on an urban development project in downtown Napa, California. Then in 1999 I joined the firm Backen and Gillam Architects and I became a principal at the firm in 2016.
For more than twenty years I have been working with wonderful people – successful and inspiring clients, creative colleagues and consultants, and talented contractors. All of them have challenged me and all of them have become friends.
